Sweet and sour sausage meatballs with onions are a very tasty and strong dish: I have to say, not the best solution if you are looking for a light lunch! 😀
I love sausage, it is a so tasty and versatile ingredient: suffice is to take out it from the bowel and knead it with your hands to create delicious meatballs, you don’t need even an egg, because meat is already quite amalgamated.
Sweet and sour sausage meatballs with onions is the ideal Sunday lunch with your family or with your friends (one of those lunches that in Sicily you digest at least at 8.00 p.m. 😀 ) !

Sweet and sour sausage meatballs with onions
Ingredients for 4 people:
400 grams of sausages
2 onions (I used red ones)
1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoons of sugar
Remove the sausage meat from its skin and form lots of small meatballs with your hands (wet your hands with water if the meat sticks to them).
Place them on a plate and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Peel the onions and cut into thin wedges.
Heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet and add the onion.
Lower the heat, cover and simmer for about 20 minutes (if the onion becomes too dry add a glass of water).
After 20 minutes, salt slightly and sprinkle with black pepper, add the meatballs to the onion and cook on all sides. Dissolve the sugar in the vinegar and add the sausage meatballs.
Cook for 10 minutes with the lid on, then uncover, turn the heat up and leave the vinegar to evaporate.
These sweet and sour meatballs are excellent also at room temperature.
